"The web is a two-way communication tool."
As more organizations develop an online presence, the web is becoming immensely larger and more complex. With so many options for online consumers, it can be easy for a site to be lost among the breadth of information. Today, web sites need excellent marketing in order to be found. Some of the best marketing comes through word of mouth, as sites are recommended among friends and colleagues through email. In order for a web site to stand out among its competition it must successfully engage visitors to be memorable enough to share. It needs to embody what it is trying to say. It needs to connect with the audience on an emotional level.
Including interactivity in a web site is a great way to connect with the audience. Whether through message boards, scheduled chats, interactive charts or timelines, anything that prompts the visitor to interact with the site will make the site more memorable. As a visitor spends more time on a site playing with the interactive areas, she is more likely to share it with her peers.
Interactive content should be viewed as a way to actively support an organization's mission by not just writing about a product or service, but by acting as an extension of that product or service. Companies and organizations that view the web as an extension of their core, will ultimately see greater benefits from their online efforts. The web is an experience, a way to connect and communicate with the audience.
